I found this absolute gem of a tag from perusing Steph’s blog over at Lost: Purple Quill. Go check her out – she literally writes the BEST book reviews!
I often add Harry Potter to any list that asks my all time favorite series. So I thought I should dedicate an entire post to its greatness.
So without further ado, let’s dive into my undying, obsessive love for the most incredible series out there!
1. Favourite book?
Order of the Phoenix is probably my favorite. When I was reading it, I think I was the same age as Harry so all the angst stuff that apparently annoyed everyone else, I found incredibly relatable.
2. Least favourite book?
Errr I’ve no idea… I honestly don’t think I have one.
3. Favourite movie?
The Order of the Phoenix – when I first saw it, it actually disappointed me a tad bit because there were so many little things that had changed. And since it’s my favorite book I was really critical about the movie, but after some contemplation and many re-watches I absolutely love it. They really could not have found anyone better to play Umbridge and I love when the Weasley twins leave the school and the fireworks going off everywhere and they had that scene where the fireworks were chasing Malfoy. I actually ended up enjoying the differences between the film and the book.
4. Least favourite movie?
Probably Goblet of Fire – mainly due to the sudden character change of Professor Dumbledore.
5. Favourite quote?
“It is important,” Dumbledore said, “to fight, and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then could evil be kept at bay, though never quite eradicated.”
6. Favourite Weasley?
Fred and George Weasley – I’m counting them as one. I had a dream for awhile that I would become a stand-up comedian so I see a lot of myself in Fred and George.
7. Favourite female character?
Hermione Granger! She is such a great role model. She is so smart and isn’t afraid to stand up for herself, her friends, or those with no voice of their own. She is fantastic.
8. Favourite villain?
Umbridge. God, I hated her.
9. Favourite male character?
Harry Potter. Yeah, I’m basic like that. He’s just so wonderfully snarky and sarcastic, but at the same time extremely humble and thoughtful.
10. Favourite professor?
“Is it true that you shouted at Professor Umbridge?”
“Yes,” said Harry.
“You called her a liar?”
“You told her He Who Must Not Be Named is back?”
Professor McGonagall sat down behind her desk, frowning at Harry. Then she said, “Have a biscuit, Potter.”
11. A, Wash Snape’s hair, or B, spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself.
Spend a day listening to Lockhart – that would honestly be hilarious and really entertaining, whereas, washing Snape’s hair… not so much.
12. A, duel an elated Bellatrix, or B, an angry Molly
An angry Molly. If Bellatrix was enjoying herself then that would probably mean I’m on the losing side.
13. Travel to Hogwarts via A. Hogwarts Express or B. flying car.
Definitely the Hogwarts Express. It’s iconic.
14. A, Kiss Voldemort. Or B, give Umbridge a bubble bath.
… This is so hard.
Give Umbridge a bubble bath. And then drown her tbh.
15. A, ride a hippogriff, B, ride a firebolt
Ride a hippogriff!
16. Is there a character which you felt differently about in the movies vs books?
Ginny. Unfortunately Ginny was very bland in the movies and never had any of her badass moments or quotes that made her so awesome in the books.
17. Is there a movie you preferred instead of the book?
18. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?
Richard Harris. The man was perfect and had a gentleness about him that was just so… Dumbledore. Dumbledore in the books was always very calm. If he ever let his emotions take over it was always a quiet disappointment or sadness, not outright rage. Although I do have to admit that Michael Gambon did work very well in the later movies as the story got more sinister.
19. Your top thing (person or event) which wasn’t included in the movie that annoyed you most.
Voldemort’s death scene in the films was so overdone when he peels and flakes apart (and the crowd breathes him in – gross!). In the book he simply dropped to the floor, limp and lifeless, showing that, at the end of it all, Voldemort was just a man. Which I felt was extremely important to the story of Voldemort as a whole and that the filmmakers did a real disservice by having Voldemort die off in that fantastical way.
Also, this is very minor, but why didn’t they have Lily in the final movie have blue eyes to match Daniel Radcliffe’s?!
20. If you could remake any of the Potter movies, which would it be?
Probably Half Blood Prince – there were a lot of plot points that were left out, which I felt were important. The battle inside Hogwarts never happens while Dumbledore and Harry are away at the cave. Dumbledore’s funeral is never shown. Snape never explains how he is the half-blood “Prince.” And then The Burrow was attacked just… LOL what?
21. Which house was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?
22. Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore (or another online sorting quiz)?
23. Which class would be your favourite?
Charms sounds like so much fun!
24. Which spell do you think would be most useful to learn?
Oh this is such a great question! The most useful for me would be the clean up one – scourgify – because I’d use that all the time.
25. Which character do you think at Hogwarts you’d instantly become best friends with?
I always thought I would fit in well with Fred and George Weasley and Lee Jordan. Practical jokesters – those are my people!
26. If you could own one of the three Hallows, which would it be?
The invisibility cloak for the same reasons Harry has it. I can sneak around whenever. I can get some alone time. It would be so great.
27. Is there any aspect of the books you’d want to change? This can be a character, an event, anything.
Umm I can’t really think of anything… However, I do agree with Steph on the silly, ridiculously long names Harry gave to his kids!
28. Favourite marauder?
Lupin – he was the least douchey, let’s be real.
29. If you could bring one character back to life, which would it be?
Tonks and Lupin and Fred. Just all of them. Tonks and Lupin just had a baby, c’mon! And Fred – George literally will never be the same without him. I could not see myself living without my sister around, I honestly couldn’t.
30. Hallows or horcruxes?
Uh, definitely hallows. I’d rather not murder anyone, thanks.
