We all love strong leading ladies.
Let’s take a second to admire some of the strongest (mentally, physically, etc.)
In my opinion, Hermione is the ultimate role model for girls.
- She is unashamedly book smart.
- She’s quick to raise her hand in class to call out an answer.
- She’s quick to question if she believes something is wrong.
- She isn’t prideful. She knows when someone is better at something than her she asks to learn from them instead of seeking to tear them down. (Example: Dumbledore’s Army)
- She stands up for herself and her friends.
- She doesn’t quiet down her unpopular opinions A.K.A. she continues to shout from the rooftops that BLOOD STATUS has nothing to do with MAGICAL ABILITY even when she’s at risk for her life.
Need I say more?
You can’t get much stronger than stabbing the Witch-king of Angmar in the face. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Arya was always true to herself and she didn’t take no shit before she left Winterfell and even after she left. I just love that Arya took her revenge for the loss of her family in the most non-stereotypical way for a girl to do. I guess I really admire women who kill someone…
Let’s just take a moment to celebrate how brave and kind-hearted this little girl is that she was the first one to go into the wardrobe and not immediately turn around and ask for someone to come with her in this uncharted world AND when Mr. Tumnus was betraying her she told him it was OK and FORGAVE HIM???! Like, who does that??!! Beautiful cinnamon roll too good for this world. Too pure.
She is so clever. She knows how to move through these upper circles and not embarrass herself (as opposed to Kitty and Lydia’s behavior at the social dances). She always has a quick-witted remark waiting to roll off her tongue any minute. She thinks on her feet and I just LOVE that.
You know, Sara is really quite a remarkable person. She grew up in the luxury of extreme wealth and privilege and yet she remained level-headed. She never thought herself superior to anyone. All the people around her exclaimed how clever or how beautiful she was, but she never saw herself that way. Even when she was reduced to instant poverty, she still managed to keep her childlike imagination and create a fantastical world to keep her positive. Even when people were extremely cruel to her now that her circumstances were greatly reduced, she never stooped to their level. It shows a real depth to her character.
“When you will not fly into a passion people know you are stronger than they are, because you are strong enough to hold in your rage, and they are not, and they say stupid things they wish they hadn’t said afterward. There’s nothing so strong as rage, except what makes you hold it in – that’s stronger. It’s a good thing not to answer your enemies. I scarcely ever do.”
It certainly takes a great strength of mind to keep your heightened emotions like anger in check. And for such a young girl in such a precarious position to do this without much difficulty is simply astonishing.
Liesel is such an awesome character. She learns to read during this book and understands how crucial it is to be literate in our society. She comprehends the duality of the power of words: they can be used to carry out both good or evil depending upon the speaker. Words bring Liesel consolation during the most difficult times of her life in the midst of Hitler’s regime. I just think it is so incredible how she remained positive when she was surrounded by so much grief and death and just… wow. She’s incredible.
This list could go on and on, but I tried to limit it to just one female character from any particular series otherwise I would have included Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Molly Weasley, Daenerys Targaryen, Sansa Stark, etc., etc. etc.
